Jeff's December Updates

DECEMBER 2020 NEWSLETTER

THIS COULD BE THE FIRST NEWSLETTER YOU HAVE RECEIVED FROM US, AND MAYBE YOU WANT IT TO BE THE LAST! WE TRY TO PUSH THEM OUT EVERY MONTH, THIS LAST YEAR, BEEN TOUGH TO DO, BUT EXPECT ONE RIGHT AFER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. IT WILL BE ABOUT OPEN DATES FOR DEER, ALL SEASONS AND TURKEY HUNTING AND OF COURSE SPRING DOG TRAINING TO BE STARTING.

·        WE WANT  2020 TO BE A MEMORY, BUT HOPEFULLY THERE ARE FEW GOOD ONES SPRINKLED IN THE MEMORY FILE.

·       THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO RECREATED WITH US THIS YEAR.

·       Apologies to all who have tried to contact me and not heard back. Lot of things happening, and a lot of incoming requests, but I am at my desk most days lately and am working on getting back to all of you. Working on a couple of days to look over prospective dogs, schedule on my end, holidays, and WEATHER not been cooperating.

·       I don’t have much to say this month about politics, as it is a mine field out there in that regard.

·       We have great upland hunting in WA, the hatch was good and cover was great after that late June rain that made a big difference and didn’t hurt the hatch. Lots of pheasants, quail okay, Huns around but hiding.

·       Deer hunting, well it was pretty darn good. 25 bucks for 25 shooters. N. Central WA hunts, 4 for 5, including late BOW rut hunt. The winter kill that was alleged to happen in 18-19 did not occur in our area.

·       Some of you are already confirmed for next year, we have a lot of people returning. We will email all of you who spoke for a return spot in a week. We will also look for new hunters during the first two weeks of the New Year, and booking deposits thereof. Anyone who has spoken for their spot and not confirmed by January 31, you are in the wind!!

·       In Eastern WA winter kill in 18-19 did not occur based on the age class of bucks that we harvested and saw while hunting. Lots of legal bucks, bagged a couple of 170+ animals. Lots of deer left for 2021’

·       Recently hunted on Sauvie’s, lots of bird’s weird weather day, but I had a good time. Duck hunting looks to be good the rest of the season, Goose hunting even better.

·       Pope Lake boys, sounds like they are having a banner season on ducks, best they have had in a while. Hope it hangs in there for them, as they have been working hard to make it happen.

·       The newsletter formats on most handsets, and will look really good in our email previewer, a little jumbled in the full loaded version.

WASHINGTON DEER SEASON – 2021 MODERN RIFLE SEASON DATES AND AVAILABILITY

GENERAL SEASON E. WA RIFLE DATES IN 2021 ARE STILL DEEPER INTO THE MONTH, October 16-19 and October 23-26 FOR OUR TWO HUNT PERIODS

The COVID didn’t slow us down, we had a COVID compliant RV set up for 15 units, along with parking and all the attendant UTV’s. We had a hand washing station, temperature pre-check on all hunters entering camp, along with the “10 questions,” and all the Hand cleaning, alcohol wipes etc. you would need. Thanks to everyone for working with us to make it a great camp this year, the best we ever have had. The only camp that the County Health officer said was truly compliant to the protocols.

The East Scablands Hunt Club (Washtucna-Starbuck-Ritzville area) DIY deer hunts are booked with the exception of guided hunts, we have 4 spots for guided hunt. We have 32 spots; we have 28 spoken for. Some of you asked for a spot when leaving, and you are in that total booked. We will be looking for deposits at the end of January. We will book the Odessa-Moses Lake - West Ritzville properties, part of the West Scablands Hunt Club next, and will have about 8 spots to book there.

We have a few openings for DIY/ guided hunts in Washington in our N. Central Washington near Republic, but only a few. You have a great chance for a Mulie or a Whitetail.  More info on this below. If you want a spot, we need confirmation of the hunt cycle you would like to hunt, and a 50% deposit.

Bird clubs’ openings: we Will have some bird hunter spots available in 2021. Low Ranch, Starbuck: CRP came back great, the other half from mowing in 2019, and looks great, better cover for the birds and the Whitetail. Spring level is good, so table is set there.

HITTING THE HIGH SPOTS IN WASHINGTON

Northern Lights Hunt Club -- We will have a variety of hunts available near Republic, WA on the Northern Lights Hunt Club ground, some new for 2021, WITH LIMITED AVAILABILITY. We have some Modern Rifle, both DIY and Guided, Regular Season Muzzleloader and Bow. Late season Bow for some real quality Whitetail. The Website outlines hunts, seasons and prices. This is a departure from out wide-open spaces hunts, hunting on some quality private land, with timber, not much brush. Very beautiful. Our bow hunts will be on set up blinds and some spot and stalk, with the Whitetails very prevalent early on in the Bow Season.  www.kdiamondk.com will host our overnight hunts with lodging and meals in this very fine operation.  Also, some special rates for our youth hunters in this club for big game.

I will publish all the offerings in the next newsletter. BOW hunting is the thing to look at here in N. Central WA. GMU 204 and 201.

Scablands Hunt Club -WEST, we have some modern rifle available, this is a tough hunt, east of Moses Lake. This season we did not hunt it, should have, lots of deer around, so we concentrated our efforts in our other operations in The East Scabland properties, and North Central Washington, Northern Lights Hunt Club. Because it is close by, we are adding last year’s addition of 7K acres to this club. As mentioned, it has some good bird hunting opportunities and the deer of course. This hunt will be priced below our EAST hunts, as a value to our hunters, also the East hunts for deer are sold out.

LAST ROOSTER STANDING SHOOTING PRESERVE-WA

We are doing hunts now, but the pheasant and chukar shortage meant we had to not take any new bookings based on available inventory. We are scouring the country looking for birds. Lots of folks moving back into outdoor pursuits, way better than being bunkered up!!
