Jeff's January Oregon and Washington Outdoor Updates

HI! SHON COUCH AND I WILL BE CABELA’S TUALATIN TOMORROW THE 19TH OUTFITTER’S DAY, HANGING OUT FROM 12 TO 4, COME BY AND SAY HI

HAPPY NEW YEAR IT’S A NEW ONE

Another year and another year for some outdoor adventure. The winter has been very mild all things considered and it was noticeable in WA on both of our damage hunts. Not much snow and temperatures were also mild for winter. Animals were in great shape, and the Anterless deer we harvested, lots of fat. Winter is mild, counted over 1000 deer last week on the ground we are hunting, some of which were migratory, but saw lots of nice bucks and lots of young bucks who ought to be 4X4’s next season! And that was in Green Wheat along the roads, lots of deer. Winter carry over and recruitment still looking good, lot of small bucks, forks, looking to be big bucks!

Water fowl, what a weird and for the most part a terrible year. Geese have been in the Valley of course, but not hanging in the southern parts as grass seed farmers had a late harvest, a late plant back, and no moisture, so geese are left to forage harder than in years past. Ducks AWOL, coming in drips rather than droves.

Seals, most of you know they are finally whacking them on the Willamette River, let’s hope we can keep that going in the right direction. Wolves, man they are coming, them and Cougar are assaulting our big game herds in Oregon, Washington the jury is out if they are impacting their herds. Our deer country in WA is a hard area for Wolves to operate in.

FUND RAISING TIME OF THE YEAR: This is the time of the year to for a lot of the conservation-based non-profits to hold their annual fund raisers. Pick a good one or two and donate at whatever level works for you.

WE STILL HAVE 3 PUPS LEFT, THEY HAVE TRAVELED, BEEN SHOT OVER AND BEEN AROUND BIRDS AND TAUGHT TO EAT AND DRINK!

WASHINGTON DEER HUNTS

We have some new stuff coming on the edge of the Okanogan. New opportunities for all weapons, plus solving the riddle of the Moses Lake ground this fall will help with addition of new hunters. We are opening up 20K acres in the Okanogan for quality/trophy Mule Deer, and Whitetail, Bow, Modern Rifle, and Muzzleloader. We will be hunting it September to December, giving us some quality Bow hunting for sure, early and during rut. We have a base ranch there that is centrally located near Republic, WA so this affords a great opportunity to expand into this historically big buck country.

WASHINGTON BUCKS FROM STARBUCK AND WASHTUCNA, NICE WHITETAIL THAT JOSE NAILED.

OREGON ELK HUNTING

We will have some LOP’s and access to straight draw if you have preference points to 2 ranches for Guided Bow and Rifle for Bull Elk outside of N. Powder. This herd, we are currently working with the owners on damage hunts for Cow Elk, (they DO have tags left for this winter.) Whole new set up and owners from when Matt hunted it a few years back, herd is being managed for hunting, 600 to 1000 head, and some nice branch bull. Some Mule Deer hunts are opening up for us in the near High Desert East of Hermiston, nothing finalized.

TURKEY HUNTING

We are filling spots as we speak, email me or call. Season starts April 15 to May 31st. It’s a blast carryover looks good and hatch was terrific.

DOG TRAINING

We will be training dogs again this year, starting some retrievers in April and start taking pointers in June.  Looking forward to the new recruits. This guy was bucking it a little.

Not a problem if you choose to not receive these, we can make that happen.
